Curriculum Area Overview

WJEC—Preparing for Work

This qualification is for young people aged between 14 and 19, who are preparing to enter the workplace. Students will combine a range of Design and Technology units to create an area of study suited to the needs of the individual learner. Assessment is through an ICT based portfolio of evidence.

What does it involve?

Product Design involves a broad approach to the designing and making of innovative new products and the improvement of existing products. This subject is aimed at those interested in the way business and industry identify potential products and successfully design and manufacture them.

The emphasis is on designing and making products that could be commercially viable.

Examination Courses Offered

Skills and Knowledge Learned

Students will experience a range of production processes and use a range of materials. The course will focus on the use of ICT in the development of a product particularly in the use of CAD/CAM.
